Cathy said something once about making Hootenannies for dinner.  I asked her, "What in the heck are Hootenannies?"  German Pancakes, duh.

So I decided to give it a try.  Ya know, mix things up from our everyday, gourmet, three course meals.  The recipe seemed easy enough.  The only hiccup was the fact that I had to remember where I unpacked my blender.  In a small kitchen it didn't take long to find it and I didn't have too much trouble making these.  I didn't burn them and they didn't spill into the oven so that was good.

Although these Hootenannies are strange looking, I thought they were quite good tasting. However, not all my children agreed.  Roman and Bella did not even try them.  Capri liked them them well enough but John said they weren't very filling.  So there you have it folks, another dinner that sucked.

I would totally make these just to say "Eat your Hootenannies Gavin!! There are children in India who WISH they could have Hootenannies right now!!"

We now call them HOOTS and we love them. We had them for dinner tonight. What a great Sunday dinner, eh? Sorry they weren't a hit at your house. :(

German pancakes are fantastic! Serve them with fresh fruit and powdered sugar on top and maybe they will look better to the kids. :)

Cute blog Amanda! haha. This is how I feel about making dinner too. I hate making dinner!! Looks like you did a great job on these. That name is hillarious- I love it! And "hoots" for short? Is that Cathy? LOL! Love it!

We always called them just German Pancakes growing up, and with my kids now. (this is my kids' fave by the way) Then a few years ago we started calling it "Bubble Cake" like the Meikles. It will always be "Bubble Cake" now.

So did you put syrup on these when you served them to the kids? Syrup makes them like dessert, I think- especially if you sprinkle a little powdered sugar on top!

Hi Ang, Funny thing is Cathy and I became friends because we met on your blog and then she added me as a FB friend. We've never met in person. But someday...
Yes, I tried the syrup, the fruit, and the powdered sugar. I think it was just the fact that it wasn't round and shaped like a pancake. Picky, picky, picky. But I loved them. I even made them for breakfast for myself last Saturday. I ate half the pan, lol.
